Eoin McLeod, University of Huddersfield, graduate of 2020
Course: Logistics and Supply Chain Management, BSc (Hons)
I first decided to study logistics after completing a supply chain module during college. This module covered the basics within the world of logistics and it immediately grabbed my attention, as I previously had no real idea what logistics was. The thought of every product in the world needing to be moved from one place to another in the right quantity, price and time was fascinating. From having this thought, to seeing hundreds of trucks every day on the road moving goods around England, really puts the sector into perspective. After looking into it, it was very clear that there were a shortage of skilled people in this profession. I wanted a career for myself and this is the reason I looked for courses in logistics at University.
While looking for the best university course that I felt best suited me, I came across ‘Logistics and Supply Chain Management with NOVUS’ at the University of Huddersfield. This course immediately stood out ahead of the other courses, simply because of the opportunities that I felt it would give me and, of course, the guaranteed job at the end.
So far, while being on NOVUS, I have had a summer placement in my first year for three months with Morrisons Plc and I am currently working at Hoyer Group UK Ltd for my third-year placement. I would very much encourage anyone who wants a career in this sector to take full advantage of what NOVUS offers. My first placement at Morrisons had helped me massively in my second year, as it teaches you real life problems that can’t always be seen or read about in a textbook.
After I graduate, I would very much like to take up a management trainee role within one of the NOVUS companies. I believe this position would set me up for an exciting career in logistics. From hearing about previous students within the NOVUS scheme, I very much believe the opportunities from this course are endless, giving me a kick start towards my career and allowing me to bring my classroom studies into the boardroom.
