Rachel Thornton, University of Huddersfield, graduate of 2021
My interest in logistics started as an Air Cadet, being taught about how the Royal Air Force moves aircraft, weapons, personal and support materials around the globe. This morphed into a wider desire to understand the world of logistics. I looked at a number of Universities and was impressed with the University of Huddersfield campus, the quality of the teaching staff and the general feel-good factor of Huddersfield. I was further drawn to this particular course due to the quality of support and encouragement promised (and now being delivered) by the NOVUS sheme.
My overall goal would be part of a worldwide company heading up logistics. I am still undecided as to what specific department I would like to work in; however, I do know that I would like to take some form of a leadership role. Hopefully, as my time with the University goes on, through teaching and experience I will be able work this out some more.
The NOVUS recruitment process is rigorous; however, is worthwhile doing, due to the rewards that I have already gained from year one. My suggestion is to you as a potential student is to work hard and stick at it! A few examples of the extra classroom activities are a team building weekend away, which helped us bond as a course and get to know the lecturers on a more one-to-one basis. We have also had a visit to Cummins and, through this worked on a project with them for our coursework. Finally, I was selected to go to London for an insight day as to how Marks and Spencers logistics runs within their company.
