Ryan Walters, University of Derby, Graduate of 2022
My summer placement at Arla was one of the best experiences that I could have asked for, as I learnt a lot in the short time I was there and was given the opportunity to be trusted to manage a project. I was placed in the Claims department to work on a project to look at POD (Proof of Delivery) retrieval rates for the milk and pallet network and to liaise with hauliers and portal providers. The main things that I learnt were to manage my time, how to use Power BI, how to manage data, and how to liaise with clients and other members of staff. Within my time, I was able to produce a Power BI KPI report that got used in the department that I was working with, improve the relationships with hauliers and portal providers by setting up monthly meeting with them, explore several sites around the country and look at putting scanners at hauliers rather sending documents via the post. At the end of my 12 weeks, I was asked to stay on until December to complete my section of the project, working fewer hours whilst at University. I would like to thank Arla, my manager Simon and the my team for making me feel welcome and teaching me a lot.
