Tamsir Chune, Aston University, graduate of 2020
Whilst completing my A-levels, I was engaged in track and field and aimed to pursue a career in athletics. However, this initial career ambition came to a halt for various reasons. This meant that I was left to find a new purpose and a career to strive for. I wanted to study a course at University that would later complement my future career. During my gap year, I worked at a retail store, where was involved in ‘goods in’; from there I became familiar with logistics and decided to study it as degree.
Whilst studying at Aston University, I was very keen on securing an industrial placement with a company that would further elaborate my understanding of logistics. I saw NOVUS as a great avenue to get in to contact with the best blue-chip companies leading the logistics profession. NOVUS are keen to help students fulfil their potential and it was for this reason I wanted to be a part of them. Whilst applying for my industrial placement, I received overwhelming support from NOVUS, which made it possible to secure my place at Pladis Global.
I am currently on my one-year industrial placement at Pladis and I have accomplished and learnt so much more than I anticipated prior to my start with company. The soft and hard skills I have gained and strengthened so far at Pladis has built my confidence immensely and puts me in a much better position in my future career. So far at Pladis, I have been able to make sense of the modules from University in practical terms and have been given the opportunity to network with many high-profile figures within logistics.
My highlight so far was collecting the CILT corporate member award from HRH Princess Anne, on behalf of Pladis at the 100th anniversary CILT corporate member day. Upon completing my degree, I intend to seek a career in supply chain management, without question!
